Exercises For Weight Loss

Weight loss may be a challenging activity that requires commitment and hard work. There are many ways in which one can lose weight and one of them is exercise. Exercise is one of the safest and most effective ways to lose weight. Some of the exercises for weight loss include;

Jogging 
This is one of the best full body workouts that require no equipment (only a pair of shoes). Anyone can do this type of exercise and it is very effective for weight loss. Jogging helps to boost your metabolic rate and increase your level of fitness & endurance thus helping you to shed off the excess weight.
It is advisable to start slowly and as you progress, you can increase your speed and distance. Being hard on yourself especially at the initial stages may strain your knees. Also, focus on one thing at a time i.e. you can decide to first work on your speed and then later the distance or vice versa.
In case jogging is too hard for you, try walking which is also very effective. Walking is much easier than jogging and is good for everyone especially someone with joint problems.

Cycling or Riding 
This is one of the best cardiovascular exercises that come with a lot of fun. You will not only be enjoying the outside scenery but will also be achieving your goal of losing weight. It is very effective in especially fat burning and it can easily enable you to get rid of 500-1000 calories in one hour.
If there is an uphill road around or you live near a hill, try cycling uphill and you will burn more calories than if you were just cycling on a flat ground. You should however start on a flat ground to enable you to get used to it and with time, you can progress to going it uphill.
An alternative to cycling especially for those who may not want to go out is the use of an exercise bike. You can place it at a place where you can easily see so as to remind you about the exercise. You can do this exercise while watching the TV or even when you are bored.

Swimming
This is a very effective way of losing weight and one can lose up to 800 calories in one hour without you having to break any sweat. It is able to tone down every part of your body while you are enjoying the waters.
A few laps of this exercise every day will definitely give you noticeable results with no damage to your ankles or knees.

Dancing
This is the best fun way of getting rid of the excess pounds. You can do the dance alone/ with someone in your house or you can join a dance club/class. There are also dancing workouts sessions offered by some gyms so you can check with them to see their schedules.
Dancing is not only a fun way to lose weight, it also enables you to socialize and make new friends and at the same time it can relieve your stress especially if there is good music and great friends. An exclusively active dance of one hour can enable you to burn 600-800 calories.
Step Aerobics
This is also an effective way of losing weight and is also the most popular. It can enable you to burn up to 800 calories in one hour. An hour a day of step aerobics (which you can split to 30 min each) will definitely give you noticeable results within 2 weeks. You can have a 30 min session in the morning and another on in the evening.

Rowing
You can do this by joining a rowing team or using a rowing machine. This will not only help you shed off the excess weight but also strengthen your entire body. Approximately, you can burn up to 300 calories by just rowing for 30 minutes.
The best thing about rowing is the fact that your entire body is engaged during the exercise. The faster & harder you row, the more fat you burn and the more strength you gain.

All the above types of exercise are very effective for weight loss. However, always consult with a doctor first before engaging in any type of exercise especially if you are suffering from any heart conditions.

Soy In The Diet

I have been hearing and reading all to much about the pros and cons of soy and soy products that we consume almost every day weather we know it or not. If you would check the labels on the foods you eat, you will find that many of them contain soy protein isolate, soy protein concentrate, texturized vegetable protein, and soy bean oil. Those products containing them are of course of the processed food varieties such as energy bars, veggie burgers, crackers, frozen "diet" lunches and dinners, and vegetarian look alike foods.

Soy consumption may cause:


  • Low energy
  • Poor Skin
  • Weight Gain
  • Depression
  • Lower Sex Drive

When it comes to infants who are on formula containing soy, the sad news is that it could be detrimental to the health and development of the child. Check that formula label!

One possible bottom line is that if have been using soy as a protein substitute in your diet, it might be a good idea to have your thyroid function checked.You might be suffering from hypothroidism, and eliminating soy from your diet may have a good effect on your overall health!
